Njoy Toys + Comstock Films

As a longtime fan of njoy toys (sponsors of the 2010 NYC Sex Bloggers Calendar), and a newer fan of Comstock Films (I’ll be reviewing Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story on my blog in the next few weeks), I was thrilled to hear about this endeavor joining the two together. While I would love to be able to take advantage of this fabulous opportunity, I don’t live anywhere near New York, but I thought I’d pass it on in hopes that one of you might be able to jump on it!

njoyeleven_side

“One of the problems in being an erotic filmmaker is that there is almost nothing to emulate. The world is filled with all sort of example of what not to do, but very little in the way of what one might try. As a result, most of the inspiration for my films from outside the world of explicit images. And in the 20 or so years I’ve been making erotic images, one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever come across is the work of Greg DeLong at Njoy Toys.

Whether or not these toys hit  your sweet spot is a matter of personal preference (some people like snails, some people like mussels.) But what is inarguable is that Greg’s line of Njoy Toys are made with the same attention to detail, personal pride, and acknowledgement of the customer’s humanity that we simply take for granted in things like bicycle components or bathroom fixtures. From Greg’s choice of materials, to his designs, to his packaging and marketing, the sort of shabbiness and shamefulness that seems utterly taken for granted in the sex industry is utterly absent in Greg’s work. There is neither the vulgarity that is so common, nor the clinical affect that is so often offered in it’s place. Greg takes his customers’ sexual pleasure seriously, and Greg takes himself seriously.

Greg and I have long talked about a collaboration, an adventure in cinema that would serve as a venue for our sexual and creative philosophies, and also be good business for Njoy Toys and Comstock Films; and after letting this roll around for a few years we have the answer. The only thing missing is you!

CASTING CALL

Prospective subjects sought for short documentary-style promotional film featuring NJoy Toys stainless steel pleasure instruments.

Requirements and other information:

1) You should be an Njoy enthusiast. Tell us what Njoy pieces you own, how you learned about Njoy and what in particular you love about your favorite piece.

2) You should be in the New York area. We will be shooting tests on Super16, with final production shot on 35mm. You will need to be available to the production on an on-going basis over the course of 4-8 weeks. (3-4 in-person meetings total.)

3) You need to really think through what it means to be appear on camera nude and using Njoy products. As the saying goes,  you can’t unring a bell.

4) This film is a commercial endeavor and there will be (modest) compensation.

To be considered please send e-mail telling us about you and your Njoy adventures, along with photo(s) of you an your Njoy Toys to njoydoc at comstockfilms dot com.

If you have a blog or a newsletter or whatever else and it would be appropriate, we would be very grateful if you repost this!

Thanks for your interest!”

Made in the USA

Category: CommUNITY, Debauched DivaDiva @ 3:56 pm

calendar2

It was  a few months ago that while I was having brunch with Sinclair and Kristen we discussed the upcoming 2010 calendar that was still in the planning stages.  The one thing Sinclair said he would really like to change this year is for us to keep the printing here in the US instead of sending it overseas.  Many of us involved all felt the same way but we also didn’t think we could afford to print it here in the USA.

While trying to coordinate more than a dozen models with twelve photographers for photo shoots,  obtaining sponsors and selling days on the calendar we realized our time for being able to print overseas was running out.  Last week I started looking into US printers.  At that moment I didn’t know the first thing about printing but I had two things to help me.  The Internet and twitter.

With the help of others we have been obtaining quotes for printers in the US and although the price is a few dollars higher per calendar we all felt it was worth the extra expense to keep the work in this country in light of how our economy and job market are at this time.

That also means that our original cut off date of June 28th to sell days has been extended.  We will now be pre-selling calendars and personalized calendar days until August 1st.   You can purchase them by visiting  The NYC Sex Blogger Calendar site.

Help support Sex Work Awareness by buying your personalized day today!

TES Fest 2009 and Sex Blogging

TES

I was invited recently to take part in a Sex Blogger Q&A at TES Fest next week. Of course Tess got a big kick out of that one because when was the last time I wrote about actually having sex  on my blog.

But for me these days sex blogging isn’t about writing about the hot sex. I entered the world of sex blogs almost two years ago as someone who was totally unaware of so much in this world of sex and since that time I have received quite the education.

What I personally think is important about sex blogs and sex bloggers is the information that it provides to people. I know better than anyone that you can’t believe everything you read in a blog but I also know that sex blogs help to spread the word and educate people about sex, relationships and events such as TES Fest 2009.

I wanted to attend TES Fest 2009 as a “newbie.” Someone who normally would not have considered going and then write about my experiences. I wanted to sit in on classes that not only interested me but also ones that I would not have normally considered and then write about them on my personal blog and here on Best Sex Bloggers because I think there are many like myself who are interested or curious about events such as this yet on the fence about actually attending.

I’m sad to say that my attending TES Fest this year for the Sex Blogger Q&A panel is not going to happen. Looking at the schedule it just didn’t work for me the day that the panel was scheduled.

I’ve had contact with some of the people organizing TES Fest this year and also have seen the schedule of classes. It looks to be a really great event with everything they have planned for next weekend. Online registration closes at 11:59pm EST tomorrow and then the price of passes will increase.

If you’re on the fence about attending or just curious (like I was) I recommend trying a one day pass for Friday to check it out. That gives you the option of attending the rest of the weekend if you find yourself enjoying the day and evening there.

If you do attend drop me a line and let me know how your experience was. Here are more of the details:

Open the Curtain and Sneak a Peak at the TES Fest 2009 Special Events

TES Fest 2009 is more than just exceptional classes and a world class play space; from July 2 to July 5. We have over 40 special events to help us celebrate our favorite kinks together! Here is a sampling of what we have in store for you:

The party starts right as the doors open! For everyone who comes on Thursday, Jeff R. and Mistress Trish are jumpstarting your weekend with the Opening Night Mixer down by the pool.

After a full day of classes on Friday, start your night off with a Meet & Greet. There are a number of special interest group Meet & Greets, including the Novice Group, TNG and the Animal Planet. After these, we shall all come together for the General Meet & Greet in the Main Dungeon. Help support the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom by placing a bid at the Celebrity Auction for the chance to play with some of the hottest people in the scene. Spend the night floating at the Late Night Latex Pool Party, where Xris Smack will be dropping the club jams into the wee hours.

TES is nothing if not patriotic, and there is nothing more American than cooking food on open flames for the Fourth of July. Let us celebrate our freedom at the July 4th BDSM BBQ. After filling up, try your luck at the TES Fest Kinky Casino Royale, complete with off-track betting at the Seahorse Race Track.

Just because it’s the last day of TES Fest doesn’t mean that Sunday isn’t packed with even more special events. Whether you want to attend the Kinky Ladies’ Afternoon Tea Party or you want to throw down at the TES Fest Fight Club Night, just remember, the first rule of Fight Club is don’t talk about the Kinky Ladies’ Afternoon Tea Party…err… uh… Fight Club.

Everyone deserves to be pampered, whether you’ve slaved away your day in five-inch stilettos or spent the night punching and whipping some willing bottom. Come to Cloud 9, where throughout the weekend, the angels will give you luxurious massages and the tender love and care you want.

Full Event, 2-Day and Single Day Passes are on sale today, and hotel rooms are still available. Don’t be left out because you waited till the last minute. We sold out last year and expect to do so this year. Register now at www.tesfest.org

Following the dyke march and the mermaid parade what a better way to warm up for the all night debauchery but with help of sexy, naked queers.  Emulated by many this indigenous East Village creation is full of idiosyncrasies yet quite engaging and loved by many.  Maybe it is the shows unyielding eccentricity that has made HyperGender one of the few long lasting burlesque shows or perhaps it is the creators love for the art form, for the audience and for all things queer that has made it stick around.  We don’t know but we hope you come and discover it with us.  If you are only visiting New York you don’t want to miss it because in years to come you want to say you were there when it was happening.

Look For The Badge

Category: CommUNITY, Debauched Diva, Sex Worker, Stuff and ThingsDiva @ 6:12 am

Sponsorbadge

If you haven’t seen one of the above yet you will over the next year. These badges were designed and created by Sinclair, one of our very own calendar pin-ups.

For us to produce this calendar it costs money and I think we all realize how scarce that is these days not just among us who write or read sex blogs but also among all the companies that are somehow associated with sex. Not long ago I started approaching companies asking them to support Sex Work Awareness and be a sponsor on the 2010 calendar.

It was a mixed reaction I received. There were some companies that didn’t even bother to respond to me, some that without asking any questions said no and then there were the wonderful ones that said yes. Sponsors who even in these hard economic times believed in the need for the work Sex Work Awareness is doing and understood how important that they have the funding they need to continue to do that work. To be able to hold more of their Speak Up! media training not just here in New York City but in other parts of the country too.

There are many companies out there who all want our business and who will offer us free products or a small percentage of their sales but there are only a select few who will put out actual money to support something such as Sex Work Awareness. These companies could be spending that money on actual advertising elsewhere but chose to instead give it to us and make the 2010 NYC Sex Blogger Calendar possible.

I hope as bloggers, readers, sex workers, sex worker allies just to name a few, thatwhen you are thinking of making a purchase from any online company and see these badges you will remember that part of what you are spending there is being donated to things such as the NYC Sex Blogger Calendar and Sex Work Awareness.

Without the support of our sponsors none of this would be possible.

Buy Your NYC Sex Bloggers Calendar and Calendar Days!

Category: CommUNITY, Debauched DivaDiva @ 2:43 pm

PinkWhite

I write a lot about this CommUNITY I am part of and that includes many of the businesses within this CommUNITY that I deal with.  Last year leading up to the NYC Sex Blogger’s Calendar release party I was contacted by Pink and White offering to give us 100 thirty day free memberships toThe  Crash Pad Series that we could hand out however we liked.  My first intention was to hand them all out at the party but we ended up holding half of them back to mail out to all of you who ordered calendars during the month of December.  We received an overwhelming response on those one month free memberships of The Crash Pad Series that we mailed out to people.

This year when I was looking for sponsors I contacted Pink and White and asked if they would consider supporting the calendar and Sex Work Awareness by co-sponsoring a month.  Without any hesitation they said they would be happy to be part of it this year and sponsor us.  I wasn’t sure this year how we would do obtaining sponsors with how the current economy is and all the cutbacks companies are doing both in donations and advertising budgets.  But companies such as Pink and White agreed to help us make the 2010 calendar possible by offering their financial support and helping to cover our expenses of producing it.

Last week I came up with a great idea to help sell days and calendars and sent an email off to Pink and White once again asking for something.  I thought if everyone loved those free memberships last year then they would love them again this year and once again without hesitation Pink and White came back to me and said YES!

Everyone loves The Crash Pad Series and the work Shine Louise Houston has created is amazing but what I love best about Pink and White is their involvement within the commUNITY they are part of.   Not every company would step forward and offer what they have to us and the support they give to Sex Work Awareness as a result.

Now hurry and go buy your days and calendars because the first 50 people who spend $30 on either a calendar or days will receive a certificate for a 30 day membership for The Crash Pad Series.

Thank you to Pink and White for supporting us.

  • On the front of the package, a circle of orange spines say, “Try Me.” You feel them; they are glossy, pointy, somewhat pliable. They remind you of body jewelry, Hot Topic, the 90s. But this tactile experience does not prepare you for the sensation of the spines in your pussy.

Editor’s Note: It should be no secret that I love Epiphora’s reviews, and this is a particularly wonderful one. Often reviews of bad toys are better than raving reviews of wonderful toys that we reviewers can’t get enough of and this is one such review. Queer Eye Candy: Call for Submissions!

Category: CommUNITY, Debauched Diva, Images, Photography, Queer, SugarbutchDiva @ 8:24 pm

Queer Eye Candy is the on-line family photo album for the queer community.” – Geek Porn Girl

“As a straight woman I do not expect to identify with pictures of lesbians right away, but I do, because love is love, laughter is laughter, and happiness is all the same. Thank you for helping me to see this in a new light.” – Kelly

“After being featured in Queer Eye Candy as a femme, and reading all the comments, it made me feel like it was OK to be feminine again.” – Em the Femme

Queer Eye Candywww.queereyecandy.com – is a community website dedicated to showcasing visual representations of butches, femmes, and all sorts of other queers. We as genderqueers know what it’s like to be out in the world and treated strangely, questioned (“Mommy, is that a boy or a girl?” “What are you doing, this is the ladies room!” “Don’t you know it’s dyke night, honey?”), or constantly stared at as we navigate through our days. We know what it’s like to feel outcast because of the way we look. But what if more people were more used to seeing us, in the wide variety of representation? What if the thousands of ways that butch and femme are reclaimed and performed were collected, so we could see how much variety exists within these identities?

And so, our mission of visibility was born.

With weekly features such as Wednesday Butch Hump Day, Date Night Thursday, and Femme Friday, Queer Eye Candy showcases all sorts of representation of and from our communities.

But we can’t do it without your participation! Here’s the part where we ask you to send in fabulous photos of yourself, your lover(s), your friends, your family. You do not need to identify as butch or femme to participate, though the project does focus on butches and femmes.

Submit your high quality, work-safe photographs to queereyecandy@gmail.com and go to http://www.queereyecandy.com/submit/ for further information about sending us your photograph. You can also submit photos through the Flickr group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/queereyecandy.

We hope to see your smilin’ face on the site.

Cheers,

Help Diva Decide On TESFest 2009

Last night I attended the reading at Happy Ending hosted by Carol Queen and the NYC Sex Bloggers Calendar and was finally able to meet Goddess Coko whom I have been corresponding with lately in regard to TESFest 2009.

We missed each other last week at Pleasure Salon even though we were both there at the same time but that is what happens in this online world when you have no idea what each other looks like in person. Upon meeting Coko last night she remarked “I only know you from your cleavage” as we both looked down at my mostly covered up cleavage and which seems to be the start of most introductions I have in person these days when I meet someone IRL.

Coko and I have been discussing TESFest 2009 since I contacted her not that long ago about including information for it in the Best Sex Bloggers CommUNITY newsletter although I have never actually attended before. I think most of what I know about TESFest is from blog posts I have read online and those all seem to describe the time people spend in the dungeon playing. I don’t recall reading much about the specific classes that are offered over the course of several days during TESFest.

Last night Coko said how she would like for me to attend this year and my first reaction was “I don’t think so.” I have never thought about going to an event such as TESFest in the past and I think the reason is that I only associate it with the playtime spent in the dungeon there. Although I’m open to whatever anyone else wants to do with their sexual freedom I don’t think at this point in my life it is something for me. However if I have learned one thing in these past few years it is to never say never.

What has piqued my interest in these type of events are the classes that are held during the day there. I guess you can say I have been on a quest to expand my personal overall knowledge of sex these past couple of years and for me the idea of being in a space where I am able to pick and choose classes to attend that are totally new to me does interest me very much.

I told Coko last night that what I would like to see is for people who are attending this year and have in the past to write about why they attend. What is it about TESFest other than the evening activities that makes them sign up for this.

Is it the classes? Or is it the other like minded people they meet at an event such as this that brings them back each year? Was there one special thing about TESFest that stands out in their mind? If so what is it?

Did TESFest live up to what they thought it would be when they decided to attend for the first time? What I want to see are their personal thoughts of what they get out of TESFest.

So being the good little submissive that I am I’m seriously considering attending for at least part of the event and I need your help to convince me. If you blog I’d like to see you post your thoughts and feelings to the questions I asked above. If you don’t blog and still want to write about why you attend email it to me at diva@bestsexbloggers.com and I’ll post it for you.

One of the things I like best about being part of this CommUNITY is how we all share our thoughts and experiences with each other and for me it has helped open my eyes to both new experiences and the many different communities around us.

Now do as I say and go start writing!

The Week In Kink (Wink#37)

wink5via The Alexa Collection

This post was incredibly difficult this week for me.  At first I thought it was me and I was suffering from sunstroke after the day spent out by the pool because if you’ll notice there is a serious lack of actual sex in these links.  Upon further research (via twitter) I discovered the cause.  I’m not sure how it happened but it appears that many of our sex bloggers from across the Internet didn’t have any sex last week and the few who did have not written about it yet.

Or at least that was the consensus on twitter today when I posted the following twitter,

Did no one have sex this past week or did you all just not bother to write about? Or am I reading the wrong blog posts? HELP! I need WinK

Within less than thirty minutes I had several people twittering back that they hadn’t had sex.  What is this Internet coming to when sex bloggers are not having sex?  I am blaming this all on twitter.  Everyone is so busy twittering they forget to go have sex.

I also received many responses from people who told me they would be writing this week about all the great sex they recently had.  If that actually happens WinK will be jam packed with a lot of hot sex next week.

Diva’s Favorite this week is a video instead of a written blog post and I strong recommend you take the time and watch.  It is Kate Bornstein’s speech from her recent 40th reunion at Brown University.  I was inspired listening to her speak to her class forty years later and when she talked about a book she had written I thought of someone I knew who would so benefit by reading that book that I’ll be ordering it this week for them.

So here is my mostly non-sex version of this weeks WinK,

We invite you to come celebrate with U/us and raise money for Meister Schmerz and CoRE LA.

Date: June 7
Time: 2pm.-9pm.
Location: Lair De Sade
6628 Lankershim blvd. North Hollywood , CA.

As this event draws near I have some more details to share with you all. This is from Goddess Soma’s blog:

Now A few weeks ago O/our friend, Meister Schmerz of CoRE and Servitus LA, lost His loft apartment to a fire. The fire destroyed His office, His dungeon and many of His personal items. His characteristic humor and deviance continue to shine through, despite the obvious devastation. He’s been heard saying multiple times, “I made it out with some of Orpheus’ fire sticks and some Vintage Rope, what more do I need?” Meister Schmerz is the Director for CoRE LA. All of CoRE LA’s tools were lost in the fire also.

W/we feel it is important for the Community to reach out to Meister Schmerz and CoRE in this difficult time. Servitus LA and Broken Door are joining forces with O/other members of the community to throw a benefit event for Meister Schmerz and CoRE. The theme of the event is a “Camp Schmerz in Montecarlo”. There will be Blackjack, pool play, a slave and Domme auction, clothing and toy auction, BBQ, DJ and dancing.

I will be doing a bondage and wax performance with Miss Olive, also of Dungeon Servitus LA, and I will be auctioning of Bondage Lessons as well. This event is going to be a lot of fun and a lot of folk are coming out to show support. You should too! This community is such a small one, and in truth all of us players are part of the same family. I love that when it boils down to it we support one another, that’s what community is all about!!

Here’s a list of companies who are donating time and resources:

A Night You Won’t Want To Miss

carolqueen1

Four of the 2009 and 2010 NYC Sex Blogger Calendar models are teaming up with Carol Queen this coming Monday (June 8th) at Happy Endings for a sex positive soiree and reading.  Several of the calendar models will be there that night and we’ll be giving out a limited number of calendars that we will sign for you.  This is one event you won’t want to miss!

What: A Sex-Positive Soiree and Reading

Who: Carol Queen visits from San Francisco, joined by Rachel Kramer Bussel, Elizabeth Wood, Audacia Ray, and Sinclair Sexsmith!
When: Monday, June 8, 6-9 pm (reading will start between 7:30-8, last about an hour).

Why: Carol Queen’s coming through town and wants to collaborate with her friends Rachel and Elizabeth to make a space for connecting, schmoozing, touching base, and furthering plans for sex-positive world domination! Her SF nonprofit The Center for Sex & Culture has hosted Rachel Kramer Bussel, worked with Elizabeth Wood on her online community Sex in the Public Square, and has plans to expand its educational and cultural offerings online as soon as we can (if we can’t afford NY real estate, at least we can visit you via your computers). Come mingle with your fellow NY sex people and meet some new ones, then enjoy a reading that will surely be more salaciously smart/sexy brain candy than most people ever get on a Monday (and in some cases, sadly, EVER).
Cosponsored by the hotties at the NYC Sex Bloggers Calendar (www.sexbloggercalendar.com to benefit www.sexworkawareness.org). Free calendars! Signed! (The theme for the 2010 calendar, in production now, is sexual freedom — yay NYC Sex Bloggers!)

Open to everyone 21+ — please pass it on.

Where: Happy Ending, 302 Broome Street, NYC
How much: No charge, but we have a bar guarantee to meet, so have a drink, and donations will be gratefully accepted for the Center for Sex & Culture — no amount to big or too small, and tax-deductible!

More details:

Readers:
Carol Queen has authored or edited eleven books, including the Firecracker Alternative Book Award winner The Leather Daddy and the Femme. She’s staff sexologist at Good Vibrations, the founding director of the Center for Sex & Culture, and has just finished a rewrite of Exhibitionism for the Shy. She hosts the monthly In The Flesh Reading Series at Happy Ending, is Senior Editor at Penthouse Variations, and writes frequently about sex, relationships, and pop culture.

Elizabeth Wood is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Nassau Community College, a unit of the State University of New York. She received her Ph.D. from Brandeis University in 1999 for a study of gender, interaction and power in strip clubs. She writes about gender and sexuality, sex work, the use of online social networking technologies to create an Internet sex commons. She has published articles in Journal of Contemporary Ethnography and Feminism & Psychology. In addition to her academic writing she runs a web site, Sex In The Public Square, for more general discussions of sex and society.

Editor’s Pick

  • by Red
  • The Baby Jesus butt plug looks like a sweet little babe all wrapped up in a blanket – fresh from the manger, one would presume. He tapers down to a nice narrowed butt plug neck at the bottom of his baby cocoon, and is propped up on a nicely flared base. His adorable little face is innocent and cherubic, and frankly, not super distinctly “Jesus” looking.

Note: When the review gives me a boner just from seeing what the item being reviewed is I can’t not make it my pick of the week. Seriously, though, I especially love how the review was defended in the comments, like she said: “While some might not like/buy/see a point in this product, some might think exactly the opposite. That’s the beauty of individuality!” I’m definitely one of those opposites! While I’d seen the product before this is the first review I’ve seen.

The Week In Kink (Wink#36)

wink4via The Alexa Collection

Today’s WinK post will be short and sweet as I spent most of the past few days either working online or on the 2010 NYC Sex Blogger Calendar.  (more about that in the next day or so) and putting together the June CommUNITY newsletter that comes out tomorrow.

There is still time to sign up for the newsletter over on the right side of this blog and I can still include something in it if you email me by 10:00am tomorrow at diva@bestsexbloggers.com.   I usually twitter these requests for submissions for the newsletter and every so often I request links for both The Week In Kink and Friday Foto Fiesta.  You can follow me on twitter at debaucheddiva.

Lately I have been receiving some inquires asking if we will once again be selling personalized days on the NYC Sex Blogger Calendar this year like we did last year.  The answer is yes and we expect to start selling those in the next few weeks.  You can follow the calendar on twitter at NYCSexBlogCal to keep up with the latest news including when the personalized dates will go on sale.

With all the news and information out of the way here are this weeks links for The Week In Kink,

Diva’s Favorite pick this week is my good friend Bad Bad Girl’s post.   This line has me laughing my ass off every time I read it.  It is what I call classic Bad Bad Girl.

Hoooly studcakes, batman.

It’s like a fucking buffet of hot men.  I mean, a big bowl of hot man soup.

Somebody hand me a spoon.

Speak Up! Media Training Materials as PDF

speakupcover On April 18, 2009 Sex Work Awareness had our first Speak Up! Media Training for the Empowered Sex Worker in New York City. All the attendees got to take home a big packet of training materials, and now we’re making that 45 page manual available to the public with a Creative Commons license.

Here are some of the subjects covered in the PDF:

    • Typical variations of mainstream media stories about the sex industry
    • Deciding to be part of a story
    • Crafting your message
    • Interview tips and tricks
    • Writing press releases, letters to the editor, and op-eds
    • Strategies for events and earned media
    • New media best practices and took kits

The manual also includes lots and lots of examples of both mainstream media and content produced by sex workers.

Click the cover image above to download!

Is there something you’d like to learn more about? Are you a sex worker support organization that is in the midst of a media onslaught? Think your community could benefit from a media training workshop? Get in touch with us.

And also, I tweaked the Sex Work Awareness website:

Featured Blogger of the Week

For the past several months I have been highlighting a different blogger each week here.  The posts are written by each blogger specifically for Best Sex Bloggers.  This week I’ve decided to do something a little bit different.

Every week I scan almost 400 blogs looking for things to post on Best Sex Bloggers and I have aquired a group of favorite blogs I like to read.  I have decided that every so often I will highlight a blogger of my choice by linking to a post they wrote and my thoughts on it.

This week I choose Mina Meow and here are my thoughts on both Mina and her most recent post.

What She Said..

This morning I read this post by Mina Meow and when I got to the end of it the only thing I could think was “Yeah, what she said.” I have been a follower of Mina’s blog for several months now and this post is one of the reasons why. I really like how she thinks and what she writes. Plus she is a cute whirlwind of non-stop energy who never fails to greet you with a smile when you meet her in person.

Mina put into words some of the things that have been on my mind lately. These days I have almost 400 feeds in my reader that I scan each week not only looking for things to post on Best Sex Bloggers but also new writers and lately I have seen several posts that carry a common theme to them and that is acceptance.

I wrote about this a few months ago in Living Life and it is still something that is on my mind. I don’t know the event Mina speaks of so I can’t give any opinion on it but what I can talk about is the concept of acceptance.

I have seen people shunned for being open about their sexuality. I have seen the heartbreak when a parent disowns a child because of their sexuality. They loved them one moment and cut them out of their life the next because they did not conform to their ideas.

For me personally I don’t care how someone identifies and I’m more than likely to get the label wrong half the time as I still try to learn and understand the meaning of the many different labels these days. When I meet someone I don’t care if they are into men, women, both or whatever. What I care about is the person that they are inside. That goes for people in both the kink and vanilla worlds I seem to inhabit these days.

I’m pretty open to anything these days and although it might not be something I am willing to experience at this point in my life I support it for others with the one guiding rule that is not do harm to others. I have also learned in this past year “never say never” because you just never know.

I do at times feel as if the kink community looks down on the vanilla world but that could just be how I see it and not a reality. However it does bother me because how do we look for acceptance from others for our sexuality when some seem to look down on those who are not part of it. Shouldn’t we set the example?

As a mother it saddens me when I see that children can not come out to their parents for fear of being rejected and then for those who do some will constantly have to work at being accepted by their parents. Like Mina I don’t know the answers to any of this but I think this part of her post sums it up well,

I recognize common ground helps to solidify a community, yet I urge us all
to consider other avenues for uniting us rather than basing them on
who we fuck, what parts we have, or what expression of gender we choose. I
guess that’s why I created Alphabet Soup…. because I don’t see what we do (or
don’t do), who we fuck, and/or how we self-identify as being reasons why we
can’t all mingle and play together.

Go visit Mina and say hello to her.  Tell her Diva sent you.
