CommUNITY
I keyed this phrase about a year ago & started using it whenever I spoke or wrote about the people around me with similar interests coming together for similar purposes…
It was officially used for an event I helped organize & taught at called Beyond Leather in 2007. The first year of this event was wonderful & it epitomized the phrase CommUNITY. Our very own Graydancer was a presenter last year as well. Check out the site & sign up for BL 2008!
I know this is supposed to be blog of my ideas but… I would rather those who see this word & will hopefully use it in their own writing would help me write this entry. So, please comment below on your ideas on the word and concept of CommUNITY and the way it is spelled & I will add your comments to the entry daily.

A FetLife CommUNITY - CommUNITY Builders…

I have first hand experience of Lochai’s CommUNITY. Recently the CommUNITY came together (paradoxically as individuals) and selflessly helped Catalina and I, in meeting some restrictive demands placed upon us by our daughter’s school. The CommUNITY came together, and spread the word. I was not only moved by the generosity of the people in our CommUNITY (and I now think of us, as Us… CommUNITY), but by the speed, and efficiency by which word of our situation had spread. So often, the Net can isolate us, or give us intimacy by proxy. I testify, cross my wooden leg and swear on my glass eye, that we few… we kinky few… are indeed One. It’s a very corny and cheesy sentiment, especially for a Dom, but… often good, true Good is corny. Truth be told, I’ve never encountered a dorkier bunch of people in my whole life (yes, myself included. Nanu Nanu) but… when Catalina and I needed help, all you kinky sinners, with loose morals and sexual deviance…. you came to us, hands outstretched to help. It was like the end of It’s A Wonderful Life, but with fisting and clover clamps. :)
CommUNITY? Hell yes. Family. Fellowship. Fetish. So, yes Lochai, there is a CommUNITY and it beats in the heart of the littlest sissiboi, as much as the mightiest Dom, or Domme. So… let us endlessly parse the etymology and taxonomy of rope bondage. Yes, we’re dorks like that, but… damn it, the kindness of STRANGErs directly affected my family, my entire family right down to my baby girl… and I will forever follow the standard of CommUNITY, wherever it leads. I is a convert.

CommUNITY — learned first hand from the man who created the concept — to me is connecting and networking people in ways that are meaningful and helpful without thought to the benefit involved in it for yourself. Let me clarify – the day I met Lochai, he told me three different people I should contact to write about on my blog. Then he introduced me to the editor of Trufetish.com. Then he helped me to get people involved in BestSexBloggers.com. Then he offered up images for our bloggers to use. Then he offered up images for our raffle. The man has given and given of himself selflessly, as though he were a member of my family. He’s taken my calls at midnight, offering advice and encouragement, on his wedding anniversary.
In fact, this CommUNITY *is* my family. I have one family member who has not turned her back on me. One. For those of us who have lost our own families, this CommUNITY has replaced that family need we have in society, to belong, to share meals at holidays, to count on each other.
CommUNITY as a word, physically represents to me, each person linked arm in arm together, either circling around one or walking in line into the battle.
In grad school I read a paper called, “Bowling Alone,” which essentially argued that our society had lost its sense of community – the analogy being bowling leagues – and points to this lack of community as one of the larger causes of our social ills, the lack of feeling a sense of belonging, of looking out for your neighbors. Maybe we need cute kinky bowling CommUNITY shirts, because I feel as though I’ve found my league.
Thank you, again, to the CommUNITY that has restored my faith in the good of humankind.
